Urban Wetlands and Collective Action: Garnier Organizes a Cleanup Event in Maipú, Chile
For the fifth consecutive year, Garnier organized an environmental cleanup event, this time at an urban wetland in Maipú, Chile, underscoring the importance of protecting key ecosystems for environmental balance.
Against a backdrop marked by the climate crisis and the urgent need to protect natural ecosystems, collaborative efforts between brands and environmental organizations are becoming increasingly important. In this context, Garnier held another environmental cleanup event in 2025, marking the fifth time it has organized such an activity in the municipality of Maipú and reaffirming its commitment to more conscious and responsible beauty.
This year, the project focused on a specific area: an urban wetland located in Maipú Municipal Park, an ecosystem that forms part of the Mapocho River estuary and plays a key role in conserving biodiversity and maintaining the area’s environmental balance.

Urban Wetlands: Key Ecosystems for the Future
The event was organized in collaboration with the Conexión Natural Foundation, also known as Plastic Oceans, an organization dedicated to environmental education and the protection of vulnerable ecosystems. During the event, more than 60 volunteers actively participated in environmental education and cleanup efforts, learning about the area’s flora and fauna, the importance of urban wetlands and their role as natural water filters, as well as their value as future water reserves.
Later, the Garnier Chile team, along with volunteers and people associated with the brand, joined in the cleanup of the estuary. The waste found reflects a persistent problem: debris carried down the Mapocho River that ends up directly impacting these ecosystems. Bottles, clothing, tires, furniture, and other large items were among the items collected.
As a result of the cleanup effort, 5,627 kilograms of trash and debris were removed, including 108 kilograms of tires and 993 kilograms of recyclable materials—figures that highlight both the magnitude of the problem and the urgency of continuing to promote environmental restoration efforts in these areas.

Environmental Education and Collaborative Work
All the collected material was sorted and prepared for subsequent classification and recycling, underscoring the importance of responsible waste management. Beyond the cleanup itself, the event helped raise awareness about how everyday actions directly impact the health of ecosystems and the quality of life in communities.
Initiatives like these demonstrate that environmental commitment goes beyond mere statements: it requires a local presence, education, and collaboration with specialized organizations.
