Argentina Seeks to Permanently Ban Cosmetic Testing on Animals
Although Argentina has long lagged behind other Latin American countries in terms of public policies against animal testing, the landscape is changing. Following the initial progress made with Resolution 550/2022 (which recommended alternative methods for menstrual hygiene products), today, in 2026, we are facing a historic initiative that seeks to ban this practice entirely across the entire beauty industry.

To bring about lasting change, we at Te Protejo have joined forces with the organizations Animal Interseccional, DifusiónV, and PM Fauna Urbana to launch the national campaign "También Sienten , Argentina."
The legislative objective of this bill is twofold: first, to prohibit the use of animals in safety and efficacy testing of all cosmetic products, including their ingredients, combinations, and final formulations; and second, to prohibit the importation and sale within Argentine territory of any cosmetic product that has been tested on animals abroad.
The petition has already gathered more than 7,000 signatures, demonstrating that more and more consumers are demanding a compassionate, cruelty-free market.
Why is it important to pass legislation now?
According to our research , 22 million animals die each year in laboratories in Latin America; the species most commonly used for these experiments are rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, and mice.
These animals are subjected to extremely painful and outdated practices, such as the Draize Test, in which various chemical ingredients or formulations are applied directly to the animals’ eyes or shaved skin to measure toxicity and irritation. The LD50 (Lethal Dose 50) test, a procedure in which a large number of animals are forced to ingest or inhale substances until, tragically, 50% of them die. All of these tests are conducted without any pain relief or anesthesia, so the animals suffer throughout the entire process.
If this bill moves forward in Congress, Argentina will become the 46th country in the world to ban cosmetic testing on animals, following the successful path already set by neighboring nations such as Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico.
